Vancouver Downtown Shooting Suspect Arrested Minutes After Police Issued Warning Of Danger

The Canadian Press , 02 Dec, 2014 12:23 PM
VANCOUVER — A shooting suspect described by Vancouver police as armed and dangerous has been arrested just an hour after a warning was issued.

Sgt. Randy Fincham reported that 54-year-old Gerry Pennell was taken into custody on Tuesday.

Police said Pennell may have targeted a 43-year-old woman in the city's downtown and they believed the risk was sufficient enough to release him name before charges were laid.

The woman's mobility scooter was found riddled with bullets when police arrived at the scene after reports of gunshots on Monday evening.

Fincham said the woman was able to escape and was later found unharmed at a nearby hospital.

Police said they believe Pennell and the woman were involved in an ongoing dispute but they have no details on what it was about.
