Vancouver Cyclist Dies On Seawall After Being Hit By An Object Thrown From Garbage Bin

  • Vancouver Cyclist Dies On Seawall After Being Hit By An Object Thrown From Garbage Bin
VANCOUVER — A Vancouver cyclist riding on the city's seawall has died in what investigators are calling a bizarre event.

Const. Brian Montague says in a news release that the 46-year-old man was riding on the False Creek seawall at about 8:30 Wednesday night.

Montague says the unnamed cyclist passed a trash bin just as another man was rummaging through it, tossing items out while continuing his search.

Police say witnesses report the victim slammed face-first into the pavement after being hit in the head by a heavy item thrown from the bin.

The man suffered critical injuries and died in hospital early Thursday morning.

Officials are now looking for the 30 to 40-year-old indigenous man who reportedly threw the item that hit the cyclist, and police want to talk to anyone else who may have seen what happened.
