  • Vaisakhi Special: Watch Everything Prime Minister Justin Trudeau Said About Sikhism And The Festival
The Prime Minister, Justin Trudeau, today issued the following statement on the occasion of Vaisakhi:

“This week, the Sikh community in Canada and around the world will celebrate Vaisakhi, the holiest day in the Sikh calendar.

“Vaisakhi celebrates the creation of the Khalsa by Guru Gobind Singh Ji in 1699. Friends and family will gather to read sacred texts at Gurdwaras and participate in lively Khalsa Day parades.

“Sikhism is rooted in teachings of equality, unity, selfless service and social justice – the very values which we all strive to incorporate in our daily lives.

Canada is proud to be home to one of the largest Sikh populations in the world, and we thank the community for the immense contributions it makes to our country.

“On behalf of our family, Sophie and I wish all those celebrating Vaisakhi a joyous celebration.

“Waheguru Ji Ka Khalsa, Waheguru Ji Ki Fateh.”
