  • United Kingdom is the winner of the Honda Celebration of Light Fireworks

United Kingdom has been declared the winner of the 2024 Honda Celebration of Light, after the world’s longest running offshore firework competition completed its 32nd year of dazzling light displays on Saturday night.

The UK was honoured as this year’s winner in both the People’s Choice and Judge’s Competition Award, based on a tightly choreographed performance, and in spite of stiff competition from Team Macedo Pirotecnia representing Malaysia, and Team Pyro Tact representing Portugal.

Each participating country mesmerised attendees with an amazingly choreographed fireworks display. However, the UK was fully deserving of the honour with their breathtaking bursts of colour while pushing creative boundaries and wowing the hundreds of thousands of people in attendance.

“Every year, teams participating in the Honda Celebration of Lights reach new levels of creativity, and each team is a winner just by being invited to compete here in Vancouver,” says Kelly Guille, President of Archangel Fireworks Inc.“However, Team Pyrotex from the UK presented a fireworks-display that truly captured the imagination of the hundreds of thousands viewing the performance.  Their soundtrack, super-tight timing and show flow landed the trophy in their hands, and for that, they are the deserving winners.”

Throughout the festival’s three evenings, well over one million attendees made their way down to viewing points to watch the spectacular firework displays.

With each year, the excitement and joy the Honda Celebration of Light brings for British Columbians as well as visitors across Canada and around the world is felt near and far.

We would like to acknowledge the remarkable performances by each of the competing teams in this year’s Honda Celebration of Light – and thank the hundreds of thousands of people who lined the shores of English Bay to enjoy this magnificent event” says Michael McKnight, Co-Chair of the Vancouver Fireworks Festival Society. “We also want to give a big shout-out to all of the staff, volunteers and sponsors, who continue to show unwavering support for the Honda Celebration of Light - and without whom this event simply wouldn’t be possible.”

Attendees enjoyed spectacular views from the Scotiabank Lounge, Inukshuk Point, the Concord Pacific Grandstand, The Concord Pacific Patio as well as from the newest vantage point, the Loungeworks Cabanas. Highlights also included visiting Morton Park Festival Zone, and the Red Bull Air Show.

The 2024 Honda Celebration of Light also included a couple of firsts; the premiere of an electric drone show, sponsored by the BC Honda Dealers, and the introduction of a 50-50 opportunity - with proceeds helping ensure the continuation of a fun, free community event. The winning prize will represent 50% of the final jackpot and a grand prize winner will be announced Friday at 10:00 am (August 2nd, 2024) at hondacelebrationoflight5050.com. The take home jackpot is $13,372.50.

Protection fund, bill of rights for renters coming; 'renters matter,' Trudeau says
The federal government wants to support those who rent their homes with a protection fund, a bill of rights and a plan to give reliable renters credit when they step up to buy a home. Prime Minister Justin Trudeau says there's something fundamentally unfair about paying $2,000 a month for rent, while those paying the same for a mortgage get equity and build their credit score.
