Under The J: RCMP Name The Puppies Contest Wants Names That Begin With J

Darpan News Desk The Canadian Press, 24 Feb, 2016 11:06 AM
  • Under The J: RCMP Name The Puppies Contest Wants Names That Begin With J
INNISFAIL, Alta. — The Royal Canadian Mounted Police is looking for help from children 14 and under to name puppies that will become future police dogs.

The contest asks for names for 13 German shepherd fur balls that will be born at the RCMP police dog training centre in Innisfail, Alta., this year.

Staff-Sgt. Eric Stebenne says a litter of pups is due in a few weeks.

The names have to start with the letter J and must be no more than nine letters long.

The children whose names are picked will get a laminated photo of the pup they named, a plush dog named Justice, and an RCMP cap.

The deadline to enter is March 22 and entries can be mailed in or done online.

"When thinking of names, it is important to keep in mind that these are working police dogs, not pets," the RCMP said in a news release Tuesday.

The online address is www.rcmp-grc.ca/depot/pdstc-cdcp/name-the-puppy-nomme-le-chiot-eng.htm.

The mail address is Name the Puppy Contest, Police Dog Service Training Centre, Box 6120, Innisfail, AB, T4G 1S8.
