UBC Resident Drives Off Road In Vancouver's Second Fatal Crash This Year

The Canadian Press, 05 Mar, 2018 01:02 PM
Vancouver Police are investigating an early morning crash that left one man dead on Sunday.

Police said a white Mercedes sedan was travelling eastbound on West 16th Avenue near Discovery Street just before 1 a.m., when the driver lost control and crashed into a treed area.

"Our officers arrived and quickly noticed the vehicle had been travelling at what appeared to be a high rate of speed. There was quite a collision scene, this vehicle was on its roof, it looked like it collided with some trees," Const. Jason Doucette said.

The driver, a 21-year-old man who lived on the University of British Columbia campus, died at the scene. He was the only person in the vehicle.

This is Vancouver's second fatal collision of 2018.

Officers were on the scene late Sunday morning collecting evidence for their investigation.

Anyone who may have witnessed the collision and has not yet spoken with police is asked to call the Vancouver police department's non-emergency line at 604-717-3012.
