  • Two people in serious condition following shooting in Fraser Heights area: Surrey RCMP

Surrey RCMP is investigating a shooting in the Fraser Heights area that sent two people to hospital.

On Tuesday, February 8 , 2022 at 11:30 pm,  Surrey RCMP responded to a report of shots fired in the area of 16800-block of 104 Avenue. A male and a female were located in a vehicle suffering from gunshot wounds. Both victims were transported to hospital, the female in serious condition, the male with life-threatening injuries.

Initial indications are that the shooting is related to the Lower Mainland Gang Conflict. Surrey RCMP Serious Crime Unit has taken conduct of the investigation and is being supported by partner agencies including CFSEU-BC. Due to the life-threatening injuries of one of victims, the Integrated Homicide Investigation Team has also been engaged.

“We understand that there is concern within our community regarding the ongoing violence,” says Surrey RCMP Media Relations Officer Cst. Sarbjit K. Sangha. “Surrey RCMP Gang Enforcement Team (SGET) along with CFSEU-BC are working day and night to gather intelligence and target those that pose the highest risk to our community.”

Road closures related to this investigation include the intersection of 104 Avenue / 168 Street in all directions, as well as 104 Avenue in both directions between 167 Street and 168 Street. The closures remain in effect for an undetermined amount of time while investigators continue to collect evidence.
