Two Ontario Police Officers Wounded During Incident In Fenwick, Ont.

Darpan News Desk The Canadian Press, 11 Oct, 2015 12:33 PM
  • Two Ontario Police Officers Wounded During Incident In Fenwick, Ont.
WELLAND, Ont. — Niagara Regional Police Chief Jeff McGuire says two officers are expected to make a full recovery from wounds they suffered in a shooting incident on Saturday evening.

McGuire, who made the announcement early Sunday afternoon on Twitter, had earlier issued a tweet thanking people for their thoughts and prayers for the wounded officers.

Police said the officers were injured after responding to a report of an attempted suicide in the village of Fenwick, which is part of the town of Pelham, just northwest of Welland.

Sgt. John Vujasik said one of the officers underwent surgery and was listed in good condition on Sunday morning.

The other officer was released from hospital after being treated for a gunshot wound to his foot.

A civilian man was also wounded at the scene, but there was no word on his condition.

Police were prevented from providing further details after Ontario's police watchdog was called in.

The Special Investigations Unit, which looks into all cases of deaths, serious injury or sexual assault involving police, has only said it is probing the incident.
