Two men are facing charges after a van was stolen in Edmonton with a 40-year-old woman inside who is blind and non-verbal.

Edmonton police issued an Amber Alert on Thursday for the woman.

Police say a 2013 white Toyota Sienna van was stolen in the northern part of the city after it was left idling outside of a store.

They say the woman’s caregiver ran inside the store to make a quick purchase.

The van was found by an off-duty RCMP officer parked and still running shortly after.

Police say the was found safe and unharmed inside the vehicle.

A 25-year-old man was arrested Saturday and charged with theft of a motor vehicle and kidnapping.

A 23-year-old man was arrested the next day and charged with theft of motor vehicle, kidnapping and vehicle operation while prohibited and a breach of condition.

The Canadian Armed Forces said Friday it is getting ready for the possibility that it will need to help bring Canadians out of Lebanon, as Israel began evacuating a large town near its own northern border with that country. Lebanese militant organization Hezbollah, which has a massive arsenal of long-range rockets, has been trading fire with Israel along their shared border since the latest Israel-Hamas war began on Oct. 7.
