ASHCROFT, B.C. — Kamloops, B.C., Mounties say two people have been killed in a fiery head-on crash in the Central Interior.

Police say a pickup with two passengers inside veered into the wrong lane and collided with a tractor trailer, causing both vehicles to erupt in flames.

RCMP say attempts to get the people out of the pickup were unsuccessful, and both died.

The driver of the tractor trailer was taken to hospital in Kamloops with non-life-threatening injuries.

Officers say the roads were bare and dry during the crash and it is unknown why the pickup went into the other vehicle's path, but a witness told police it was having difficulty staying in its lane.

RCMP, paramedics and fire crews all attended the scene in Ashcroft Tuesday evening, and the BC Coroners Service and police are both investigating.
