Trudeau, Morneau, At Economic Summit On Global Economy

Darpan News Desk The Canadian Press, 08 Jun, 2016 12:05 PM
TORONTO — Finance Minister Bill Morneau says Ottawa is doing a "deep dive" on the country's various housing markets.
Morneau was asked during an economic conference today whether he is concerned about housing bubbles.

Morneau said the government is focused on looking at "real evidence" when it looks at issues such as whether foreign investment is driving up home prices.

Prime Minister Justin Trudeau and Morneau are in Toronto today for the so-called Canada Summit exploring Canada's role in the global economy.

Trudeau is scheduled to address the conference later today.

The summit, sponsored by the Economist, is aimed at identifying the key trends that are reshaping Canada's role in the global economy while delving into ways the country can become more competitive.

Toronto Mayor John Tory is also scheduled to address the conference.

Topics of discussion include the housing boom and consumer debt, and whether a financial bubble is ready to burst, and how to reinvent the energy sector as it deals with lower oil prices.
