VANCOUVER — Thirsty sailors hoping that Prime Minister Justin Trudeau could be coaxed into buying a round on Monday were left disappointed.
During a tour of a coast guard icebreaker in Vancouver's harbour on Monday, Trudeau admired a large bell on the Sir Wilfrid Laurier.
Capt. Bill Noon explained part of the bell's significance to those on board.
"The crew wanted you to ring it, but then you'd have to buy the next round," he said.
Trudeau laughed and replied: "No, I know that. ... I've learned never to ring a bell unless officially told by someone who has the authority to buy beer."
