Trial To Resume For Boy Charged In Death Of Cape Breton Teen Who Fell Under Bus

The Canadian Press, 14 Sep, 2015 10:42 AM
SYDNEY, N.S. — The trial of a Cape Breton boy charged with criminal negligence causing the death of an 18-year-old classmate is expected to resume today in Sydney.

The 15-year-old defendant is accused of pushing the older boy under the wheels of a moving school bus outside Sydney Academy last winter.

The trial heard from witnesses last week who testified that a group of about six students were fooling around in front of the school on Feb. 11 when Christopher Chafe was pushed under the bus.

A paramedic who attended to the student minutes later said he had suffered fatal head injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene.

The Crown concluded its case last week and the defence is expected to bring forward a motion regarding evidence today.

Cape Breton Regional Police charged the accused more than a week after Chafe's death.
