Trial Date To Be Set For Retired B.C. Teacher Facing Child Pornography Charge

The Canadian Press, 06 Jan, 2015 01:57 PM
  • Trial Date To Be Set For Retired B.C. Teacher Facing Child Pornography Charge
KAMLOOPS, B.C. — A retired teacher facing a child-pornography charge will return to B.C. Supreme Court in two weeks to set a trial date.

Jerry Waselenkoff is facing one count of possession of child pornography, and a date for his trial is expected to be set on Jan. 19.

The 66-year-old Kamloops, B.C., resident was charged in 2013 after an investigation that lasted nearly a year.

The Crown is expected to rely on testimony from workers who said they found a stash of DVDs during electrical repairs in a condo above the one in which Waselenkoff was living in 2012.

Last year, the former elementary school teacher tried to amend a bail condition that prevented him from travelling to Thailand.

A provincial court judge denied his request. (Kamloops This Week)
