Trial Begins For Man Charged With Murder In Bombing Death Of Woman In Wheelchair

    RED DEER, Alta. — A jury trial is to start today for a man charged in the bombing death of a disabled woman in central Alberta.
     
    Brian Malley, who is 57, faces charges of first-degree murder, causing an explosion and sending a person an explosive device.
     
    Victoria Shachtay (SHAK'-tay) died in November 2011 when a package delivered to her townhouse in Innisfail exploded on her doorstep.
     
    The 23-year-old single mother had been paralyzed in a car crash seven years earlier and used a wheelchair.
     
    Malley worked as the woman's financial adviser.
     
    The trial is scheduled to last five weeks.
