Translink sees jump in ridership

A report compiled for TransLink -- Metro Vancouver's transportation network -- shows ridership has jumped 20 per cent or more in all areas over the past year.

The report says overcrowding is approaching pre-pandemic levels -- especially in regions including Richmond, Surrey, Delta, White Rock and Langley.

The study, which was discussed this morning by members of the TransLink Mayors' Council, reports 15 per cent more riders in those cities use transit now than before the pandemic -- essentially voiding the 12 per cent service increase that was recently provided.

Mayors Council chair Mayor Brad West says the strong year-over-year growth proves urgent action to support and expand transit is needed by all levels of government.

The drivers, both of whom were males in their 20s, were issued tickets for Excessive speed and Drive without Due Care and Attention totaling over $ 1500. Their vehicles were also impounded for 7 days, however, both vehicles may well be written off due to the extent of damage.

B.C. unveils new housing permit process

A single application process is being created, and Eby says permit and authorization decisions will be expedited through a cross-ministry team focused solely on processing housing permits. He says 42 new full-time staff will be hired to identify the highest-priority housing and will steer those through the process quickly and efficiently.
