Township of Langley wants own RCMP detachment

Darpan News Desk The Canadian Press, 10 May, 2023 12:11 PM
  • Township of Langley wants own RCMP detachment

The Township of Langley says it wants its own RCMP detachment and plans to stop sharing policing resources with the City of Langley.

The township's council voted to begin the process, which the mayor says could take up to four years.

Mayor Eric Woodward says the goal is to improve services for his community, which is much larger geographically and growing at a faster rate than the city.

He says the township currently pays for the majority of police resources and an agreement is already in place to buy the city out of its share of the police station.
