Town Relieved After B.C. House Where Allan Schoenborn Killed His 3 Children Torn Down

Darpan News Desk The Canadian Press, 01 Apr, 2015 01:13 PM

MERRITT, B.C. — The mayor of Merritt, B.C., says his community is relieved that a house where three children were killed by their father has finally been demolished.

Neil Menard says it's been four years since the city began sending the owner notices to tear down the mobile home or move it elsewhere.

Allan Schoenborn (SHOW'-en-born) stabbed his daughter and smothered his sons at the home in April 2008 and is now at a secured psychiatric facility in Coquitlam, B.C.

Menard says the homeowner was given a deadline of March 15 before the city would hire a contractor to knock it down and bill for costs, including a 15 per cent surcharge.

He says the owner finally obtained permits for the work last Thursday, and demolition was completed today so it's no longer a constant reminder of a such a heinous crime.

Menard says the homeowner, who lives in the Vancouver area, is angry at having to get rid of the home and now neighbours are waiting to learn what will be done with the property.
