Toronto Police And Victim's Family Ask For Help With Muzik Club Shooting Probe

The Canadian Press, 22 Jul, 2016 12:29 PM
Toronto police and a victim's family are asking for the public's help in solving a deadly shooting that took place at a nightclub hosting an after-party for rapper Drake's music festival last year.

Det. Omar Khan says he knows there are more people out there with information on the shooting at the Muzik nightclub that killed 23-year-old Duvel Hibbert and 26-year-old Ariela Navarro-Fenoy on Aug. 4, 2015.

Police have spoken to hundreds of potential witnesses and collected a large amount of video evidence but no charges have been laid.

Investigators are still trying to identify the same two people of interest singled out in the aftermath of what police had described as a "brazen" shooting at the time.

Police believe Hibbert was the intended target of the shooting and that Navarro-Fenoy was an innocent bystander.

Navarro-Fenoy's sister Aluen made a tearful plea for witnesses to step forward.

"We need your help in bringing Ari's murderer to justice," she said.

The shooting took place during the official after-party for Toronto-born rapper Drake's annual OVO Fest music festival.

Three other people were injured during the incident which began inside the nightclub, where thousands were partying, and spilled into the streets north of the venue.

The shooting touched off a wave of concern across the city and prompted Drake to offer condolences to the families of the victims.
