Toronto Hospital Says Its ER Will Remain Closed Through Weekend Due To Flooding

The Canadian Press, 19 Feb, 2016 12:58 PM
TORONTO — A major downtown Toronto hospital says its emergency room — closed earlier this week due to flooding — will remain unavailable to walk-in patients this weekend.

A spokesman says St. Michael's emergency department is only able to accept patients arriving by ambulance.

Geoff Koehler says Friday and Saturday nights are typically the emergency department's busiest nights for trauma, and overall volume is usually very high.

Koehler notes that alcohol consumption and other activities can add to demand on the emergency department and says St. Michael's usually gets a lot of walk-in patients on weekend evenings.

It's important that people know that the hospital's Emergency Department remains unable to accept walk-in patients.
