Toronto Cop Taken To Hospital After Bite From Sick Raccoon

The Canadian Press, 28 Dec, 2015 12:15 PM
  • Toronto Cop Taken To Hospital After Bite From Sick Raccoon
TORONTO — A Toronto police officer has been taken to hospital after he was bitten by a sick raccoon.

Const. Allyson Douglas-Cook says police received a call about a raccoon that appeared to be blind and hanging around a downtown store Monday.

She says two officers arrived around 12:30 p.m. to deal with the nuisance animal and one officer was bit in the hand while trying to corral it.

Douglas-Cook says the officer was taken to hospital, but his hand injury isn't serious.

There are concerns, she says, about rabies after 10 raccoons have tested positive for the fatal virus in Hamilton.

She says the city's animal services division now has the animal and will perform tests to determine the cause of its illness.
