Tired but triumphant ball hockey team breaks record for longest game

Darpan News Desk Darpan, 13 Aug, 2014 11:42 AM
A group of exhausted players in Nanaimo, B.C., spent Tuesday night in their own beds after scoring what they hope is a world record for the longest street hockey game.

Organizer Tali Campbell says the 40 players faced off at 8 a.m. Friday morning and didn't stop until late Tuesday — 105 hours and 44 minutes later.

Campbell says that's 27 minutes longer than the previous record.

He says players slept in three-hour shifts and were supported by an army of volunteers including score and time keepers, kitchen staff and fund raisers.

Two players needed hospital treatment for minor injuries suffered during the marathon game, but otherwise, the event went off without a hitch.

The team used the game to raise money for several charities.
