Three RCMP Cruisers Rammed In Surrey; Suspect To Appear In Court

The Canadian Press, 04 Jan, 2015 03:33 PM
  • Three RCMP Cruisers Rammed In Surrey; Suspect To Appear In Court
SURREY, B.C. — Mounties in the Metro Vancouver city of Surrey, B.C., say three police cruisers have been rammed by a stolen vehicle but nobody has been hurt and a suspect is in custody.

The incident took place just before noon Sunday in an area between the town centres of Newton and Whalley.

RCMP Staff Sgt. Murray Hedderson says police were looking for the vehicle because its occupants had been observed breaking into parked automobiles in another area of the city.

He says officers found it, but as more members arrived in the area, the stolen vehicle drove off, ramming three police cars and severely damaging two of them.

Hedderson says while the passenger fled the vehicle before it stopped, the 23-year-old driver was arrested at the scene and will appear in court on Monday.

Police are looking for those who may have had property stolen from their vehicles as well as witnesses of the collision.
