Three People Dead After House Fire In Hamilton

Darpan News Desk The Canadian Press, 15 Jun, 2017 12:55 PM
HAMILTON — Three people lost their lives in a fire that tore through a home in Hamilton early Thursday.

The flames broke out shortly after midnight and when firefighters arrived, they found heavy smoke pouring from the house, fire officials said.

Emergency crews went inside, where they found three people and pulled them out, said Claudio Mostacci, spokesman for the Hamilton fire department.

Crews immediately began to perform CPR, but one person died at the scene, Mostacci said. The two others were sent to hospital, where they died.

There was no immediate information on the ages and genders of the victims.

No other homes were damaged in the fire, Mostacci said.

The cause of the fire is unknown at this time but Ontario's Office of the Fire Marshal is at the scene to investigate.

Eighty-three people died in residential fires in Ontario in 2015, according to the latest data compiled by the fire marshal's office.

That was up from 67 the previous year.
