Therapy Dog Helps Young Witness Testify In Prince George, B.C., Trial

Darpan News Desk The Canadian Press, 20 Nov, 2015 12:15 PM
PRINCE GEORGE, B.C. — A therapy dog has helped a young witness testify at a violent assault trial in Prince George, B.C.

Max, a nine-year-old Yellow Lab, provided support to a nine-year-old girl as she testified at the trial earlier this month, marking the therapy dog's first time in B.C. Supreme Court.

Prince George RCMP say the witness reached down and patted the dog throughout her testimony, and he would gaze up at her as she continued speaking.

During breaks, the girl drew pictures of Max, made him do tricks and dressed him up in a shower cap.

RCMP say the child witnessed the assault several months ago, met Max shortly afterward and developed a good rapport with him.

Prince George RCMP's therapy dog program began two years ago, and also includes Grimmus, who comforts those traumatized at the scene of a crime.
