The Tie That Binds: Mother Of Missing Manitoba Man Starts Awareness Campaign

    WINNIPEG — The mother of a missing Manitoba man hopes her necktie campaign will help find her son and others who have disappeared.
     
    Colten Pratt, who is 26, has been missing since November 2014 and Lydia Daniels has spent the last year trying to find him.
     
    Daniels says that while there are awareness campaigns for women who have vanished — including red ribbons for missing and murdered indigenous women — she couldn't find anything for missing men.
     
    On the weekend, she and her friends attached men's neckties to bridges on the Long Plain reserve and around hydro poles in downtown Winnipeg.
     
    She says supporters have place nearly 100 ties so far.
     
    She hopes they might help jog someone's memory about her son's disappearance.
     
    "We chose the tie because we feel that it symbolizes the ties that bind us to our children, to our missing men, and it connects us to each other,” Daniels said.
     
    She is still hopeful that she will see her son again. Last spring, information surfaced that Pratt had been spotted at a bus shelter in Winnipeg the day after his disappearance.
     
    Daniels would like others to hang ties for their missing loved ones. She's set up a Facebook group and is looking for donations of used ties to help continue her project.
