The Province is providing $195M in funding in life sciences

The province is providing 195-million dollars in grant funding to help attract and retain top researchers in the life sciences field.
Jobs Minister Ravi Kahlon says Michael Smith Health Research B-C will get 116-million dollars while Genome BC will get the rest in order to spur innovation.

Kahlon says the province wants to leverage B-C's contributions to developing and manufacturing COVID-19 vaccines towards learning how to deal with future pandemics.
He says the funding could also help advance research in a range of areas including the development of new medications, rapid diagnostic tests for diseases and clean technology.Â
There are 31,822 active cases of COVID-19 in the province, and 276,529 people who tested positive have recovered. Of the active cases, 987 COVID-positive individuals are in hospital and 129 are in intensive care. The remaining people are recovering at home in self-isolation.

Trial commenced in October of 2021. On January 20, 2022, Robert Tomljenovic was found guilty of Manslaughter and Robbery with a firearm. The next court appearance is for sentencing.
Schools in British Columbia will soon get rapid antigen tests as a way to reduce the transmission of COVID-19 among staff, including teachers and administrators. The Education Ministry says 200,000 test kits are being shipped to elementary and high schools in an effort to keep them open.

"If you get a 'bail money' scam call, don't share your personal information and don't be afraid to say no. Hang up and call your local police," said Cst. Kelly McIntyre of the North Vancouver RCMP.
