The first 2 Canadian-operated evacuation planes left the capital of Sudan today

Military and government officials say the volatile situation in Sudan is making further evacuation efforts difficult.

The first two Canadian-operated evacuation planes left the capital Khartoum today carrying 118 people -- including both Canadians and citizens of allied nations.

A second @CanadianForces evacuation flight from Sudan took place hours after the first flight. The evacuations were without incident, and we are planning for future extractions from the area in the days to come — for as long as conditions permit.

Global Affairs Canada says more than 100 Canadians still in Sudan have asked for the government's help to get out.

Vice-Admiral Bob Auchterlonie, commander of the Canadian Joint Operations Command, says the military will continue evacuations as long as they can.
