Terror suspect Awso Peshdary under communication ban

Darpan News Desk The Canadian Press, 04 Feb, 2015 12:00 PM

OTTAWA — A judge has barred terrorism suspect Awso Peshdary from communicating with several people, partly due to Crown fears of witness intimidation.

The Ottawa man was arrested Tuesday and charged with various terrorism offences.

Two other Ottawa men, accused of joining extremists overseas, were also charged.

Peshdary's lawyer, Richard Morris, argued in Ontario court today there was not enough information to grant the non-communication order.

Federal prosecutor Rod Sonley says the order is needed to prevent interference with about a dozen individuals who might be witnesses.

Morris says Peshdary intends to plead not guilty.
