Ten-year-old girl injured in robbery: VPD

Darpan News Desk Vancouver Police, 09 Mar, 2021 07:29 PM
  • Ten-year-old girl injured in robbery: VPD

A 10-year-old girl was in line outside a restaurant in the 200 block Keefer Street on Saturday morning, waiting to buy her family breakfast. A woman reportedly approached her and grabbed her arm, then reached inside the girl’s pocket and took a $50.00 bill.

When the little girl followed the woman and tried to get her money back, the suspect allegedly elbowed her in the face, splitting her lip and causing a nose bleed. Multiple witnesses called 9-1-1, and a bystander intervened and ensured the suspect did not leave the scene.

Police officers arrested the suspect for robbery and took her to jail. The $50 bill was recovered. Paramedics treated the girl and her father took her home.

Investigating officers learned that the family had recently arrived in Canada from Mexico. The child was buying breakfast because their stove was broken. Members took up a collection from their fellow officers in the area and presented the family with over $200.
