Ten Grass Fires Extinguished In North Vancouver; Police Seek Arsonist

Darpan News Desk The Canadian Press, 10 Jul, 2015 01:04 PM
VANCOUVER — Police say firefighters have extinguished 10 small grass fires that were intentionally set on a trail in North Vancouver, B.C.

Mounties say officers and firefighters were dispatched to the Lynn Valley area on Wednesday morning and found the fires burning behind homes backing onto a "tinder dry forest."

They say 15 firefighters extinguished the blazes of various sizes and are blaming the incident on "an arsonist."

Mounties say the fires would have grown quickly had they not been reported so soon.

RCMP Insp. Jennifer Hyland says in a news release that public safety is paramount now with the extremely hot-and-dry weather conditions.

Police and the fire department are now looking for the person who set the fires and are asking individuals who have tips or information about the incident to call them.
