Teen Pedestrian Dead In Abbotsford After Collision With Off-duty Police Officer

The Canadian Press, 27 Dec, 2014 11:34 AM
ABBOTSFORD, B.C. — A fatal motor-vehicle crash between an off-duty police officer and teenage pedestrian in British Columbia's Fraser Valley is under investigation by the province's police watchdog.

The Independent Investigations Office of B.C. says the 14-year-old boy was struck by a vehicle near an intersection at a local mall in Abbotsford, B.C., on Friday evening.

It says he was airlifted to hospital but died of his injuries shortly before midnight.

The off-duty member of the Abbotsford Police Department remained at the scene, and the office says it was informed of the accident.

The office says its investigators spent the night identifying and interviewing witnesses, canvassing for video surveillance and seizing physical evidence.

The police department says in a news release issued before the boy's death that its thoughts and prayers are with the families of those involved.
