SUV Smashes Through Edmonton House, No One Seriously Injured

Darpan News Desk The Canadian Press, 11 May, 2015 01:13 PM
EDMONTON — No one was seriously injured when a speeding sport-utility vehicle  smashed through a fence and plowed through a house in Edmonton.

Police say the SUV plowed through the dining room and kitchen before getting stuck inside the garage.

A ripped-up fence post was tossed through the air and went through an upstairs window into a room where children were sleeping.

The driver was sent to hospital with minor injuries, but no one in the house was hurt.

The family won't be able to return to their home as investigators have determined that the structural integrity has been compromised.

A 29-year-old man faces charges of impaired driving and dangerous driving.

Police say they got an early-morning call Monday about a possible impaired driver who was seen heading in the wrong direction in the city's northeast.

The driver wouldn’t stop for officers, so the police helicopter followed and watched as the SUV reached speeds of 120 km/h. The vehicle failed to stop at a T-intersection, hit the curb, caught some air and smashed through the fence and house.
