Police are investigating what they say is a suspected homicide in Port Hardy on northern Vancouver Island. 

The major crime unit says in a statement that a person was discovered hurt in the community on Sunday.

Police say the victim was likely assaulted and died of their injuries after being taken to hospital. 

R-C-M-P Sergeant Vanessa Munn says the investigation is in the evidence-gathering stage and no other details will be released yet.
