Suspected Fentanyl-Related Deaths In Regina Prompt Police Warning

IANS, 24 Nov, 2016 01:36 PM
REGINA — Police in Regina have issued a warning to the public about using fentanyl after the painkiller was suspected in the deaths of two people in the city earlier this month.

Investigators say the body of a woman was found in a home on Nov. 8, while a man was found dead in another home on Nov. 17.

Toxicology results are not back yet, but the coroner's office believes the deaths were the result of overdoses caused by fentanyl.

Police say the drug has been mixed with heroin or cocaine, and that overdoses occur when people are not aware they're consuming the opioid.

The prescription drug is 100 times more powerful than heroin.

There were 22 confirmed fentanyl-related deaths in Saskatchewan last year.
