Surrey RCMP urge caution after recent cluster of drug toxicity deaths

Darpan News Desk Surrey RCMP, 29 Apr, 2021 07:04 PM
  • Surrey RCMP urge caution after recent cluster of drug toxicity deaths

Surrey RCMP is urging members of the public to exercise caution after a recent increase in drug toxicity deaths in Surrey.

Between April 21 and April 27, 2021, Surrey RCMP were called in response to six separate deaths believed to be caused by drug toxicity.

At this time, it is unknown if the deaths are related to the use of illicit substances from the same source however, it is suspected that the deaths are linked to the use of fentanyl/heroin (opiates). Five of the six decedents were located in private residences and it is believed that they were using drugs alone.

Sadly, Surrey RCMP have attended 70 fatal overdoses in our community this year, with 20 of those occurring in April, so far.

Surrey RCMP is strongly urging community members to take the following precautions if they are using drugs of any kind:

  • If you or someone else is thought to be overdosing please call 911 immediately for medical assistance
  • Do not use drugs alone
  • Be careful as to how much you use
  • Always ensure that you have a Narcan kit

If you or a loved one is suffering from an addiction, help is available. Please contact your local health care provider.
