Surrey Man Sarbjit Bains Sentenced To Life In Prison For Killing Three People Including Amritpal Sar

IANS, 02 Oct, 2015 10:09 AM
An Indo-Canadian man was sentenced to life in prison for killing three people in separate attacks in 2013, a media report said.

The British Columbia Supreme Court in New Westminster on Wednesday handed out the sentence to Sarbjit Bains after he pleaded guilty in April this year to killing Amritpal Saran, Jill Lyons and Karen Nabors, media reported on Thursday.

Justice Miriam Maisonville set Bains' parole eligibility term at 18 years, which means he will not be allowed to apply for release before 2033.

Bains killed Saran in February 2013 when he found the man naked in his girlfriend's bedroom after a party. The Indo-Canadian also planned to rob Lyons and Nabors -- who advertised online as escorts -- but ended up killing both in August 2013, the court heard.

Bains was arrested and charged with all three murders in January 2014.

He pleaded guilty to two counts of second-degree murder in the deaths of Lyons and Nabors and to the lesser charge of manslaughter in Saran's death.
