Steven Sharda, 20-Year-Old Indo-Canadian Youth Shot Dead in Calgary

The Canadian Press, 19 Jul, 2015 01:15 PM
An Indian-Canadian youth was shot dead in the city of Calgary in a possible "targeted attack", a media report said on Sunday.

Steven Sharda, 20, was found dead in a vehicle on July 11, South Asian Link reported.

Another unidentified person, found with Sharda in the vehicle, was critically injured and is battling for his life in a hospital.

"We believe it was a targeted attack. The people responsible knew the victim," staff sergeant Doug Andrus told a press conference on July 14.

"We are in the process of collaborating witness evidence and reviewing CCTV video to identify the suspects," he added.

"This event is certainly more than just concerning; it is very unsettling," duty inspector Darren Leggatt was quoted as saying.

Neighbours heard the gunshots in 5300 block of Rundlehorn Drive NE area.

"I heard about four gunshots. I did not want to come outside," a resident was quoted as saying.

The police, trying to ascertain the motive for attack, are yet to interview the second victim.

Results of the forensic examination of the vehicle have not been made public as yet.
