State-Of-The-Art Surrey Tennis Centre Opens In Newton

The Canadian Press, 03 Dec, 2015 12:31 PM
Surrey, BC – The new state-of-the-art, 12-court Surrey Tennis Centre officially opened its doors on Saturday.

The facility will provide a wide-range of lessons and court time for youth, adults and seniors, from novice to those aspiring to competitive play. It will also deliver additional value as a sport hosting venue for regional and national competitions.

“As a rapidly growing city of children and families, we must add infrastructure to provide residents with ample opportunity to engage in a wide-range of recreational activities,” said Mayor Linda Hepner. “The new Surrey Tennis Centre is an excellent addition to what is becoming a comprehensive catalogue of first-rate sporting facilities in Surrey.”

The centre includes six indoor tennis courts under an air-support ‘bubble’, and six outdoor red clay tennis courts. Recreational, instructional and developmental programs will be offered, and the facility will also provide training and certification programs for tennis coaches.

“The new facility will support both the recreation needs of Surrey’s resident population, as well as help to advance the City’s Sport Tourism Strategy by providing hosting opportunities which bring valuable economic benefits,” said Councillor Bruce Hayne, Chair of the Parks, Recreation & Sport Tourism Committee.

The Surrey Tennis Centre is operated as a public-private partnership. It is located at 5891 – 144th Street in Surrey
