  • Standoff Ends At Pattullo Bridge, Independent Investigations Office Takes Over The Case
NEW WESTMINSTER, B.C. — British Columbia's police watchdog has taken over a case involving officers responding to a bridge connecting New Westminster and Surrey, B.C.

The Independent Investigations Office handles all investigations into police matters involving serious injury or death.

New Westminster Police are releasing few details about what happened early Monday morning on the Pattullo Bridge.

They confirm they were called at around 3 a.m. and shut down the major commuter link for about six hours, causing gridlock on other routes into Vancouver.

There's no word on how the standoff ended.

The bridge reopened just after 9 a.m., and police issued a news release a short time later, confirming the IIO was contacted and had taken over the investigation.
