ABBOTSFORD, B.C. — The son of a senior British Columbia Liberal MLA has been charged with dangerous driving.
 
Crown appointed a special prosecutor to independently review an incident involving Ryan Plecas and another man after an incident in Abbotsford, B.C., in December 2014.
 
The province's Criminal Justice Branch says Plecas is the son of Darryl Plecas, the parliamentary secretary for seniors, and the charges were approved by prosecutor Marvin Stern.
 
The branch says Stern was appointed to avoid any real or perceived improper influence, after Abbotsford police filed a report on the incident. 
 
Neither the Crown nor the special prosecutor was commenting further because the case is before the court.
 
Ryan Plecas is set to make his first appearance on July 20 in Abbotsford provincial court, while Cody Green will appear August 6 to face a mischief charge.
