South Surrey Woman Recovering After Deck Collapse That Sent Her Sliding Into 16 Metre Ravine

The Canadian Press, 24 Feb, 2016 10:37 AM
SURREY, B.C. — A Surrey, B.C., woman is recovering after a terrifying tumble late Tuesday afternoon.

Assistant Fire Chief Chris Keon says the unnamed victim was on a deck at the back of a home in south Surrey when the deck collapsed into the ravine below.

The woman fell about halfway down the 16 metre ravine.

She managed to grab a tree to stop her slide, but Keon says the steep slope complicated the rescue.

A technical team needed ropes to reach the victim, and she was removed on a spine board as a precaution.

She was taken to hospital and Keon says it's expected she will make a full recovery.
