Sophon Sek To Plead Guilty To Break And Enter In 'Surrey Six' Gang Murders

The Canadian Press, 18 Dec, 2015 01:18 PM
VANCOUVER — A man accused of playing a role in the execution-style shooting deaths of six men in a Surrey, B.C., highrise is expected to plead guilty to break and enter with intent to commit an indictable offence.

Sophon Sek's lawyer Terry La Liberte says he will enter the plea and be sentenced in B.C. Supreme Court on Friday afternoon.

Sek has already pleaded guilty to drug trafficking and firearms charges, but his lawyer says a manslaughter charge will not proceed

Sek was accused of helping the so-called Surrey Six killers by arranging to visit victim Corey Lal to sell him heroin in October 2007.

He was allegedly with Cody Haevischer, Matthew Johnston and a third man when they knocked on Lal's door with a plan to kill the rival drug dealer, though Sek did not enter the suite.

Haevischer and Johnston were convicted of first-degree murder in the deaths of Lal and five other men, including two bystanders, but they have filed appeals of the verdicts.
