Social Media Claims Not Reported: Abbotsford Police

Darpan News Desk, 12 Dec, 2019 08:38 PM

Over the past two weeks, the Abbotsford Police has observed social media posts that may cause alarm in our community. These posts include that there have been attempted abductions, a sex ring group operating in Abbotsford, and strangers attempting to get into citizen-occupied vehicles.

These types of incidents are of great concern to AbbyPD, and when appropriate, we will always advise our citizens of potential risks through official media releases and public warnings. To date, however, AbbyPD has NOT received any reports of this type.

If you have experienced or observed these types of incidents, we ask that you immediately report the event by calling 9-1-1.

    Parking lot safety:

Stay alert to people and cars around you.

Keep your keys out and ready.

Look around and inside your vehicle before getting in and use caution if anyone nearby looks suspicious. Please REPORT suspicious activity to 9-1-1.

This may seem obvious – but remove valuables and lock your vehicle. Many vehicle thefts occur because vehicle doors are left unlocked and keys are left in the ignition or on the seats.

Sharing and forwarding official messages from AbbyPD helps to ensure that accurate information is circulated to the public.

Should you wish to confirm the validity of social media posts uploaded by community members, please contact the Abbotsford Police media officer, Sgt. Bird at askmedia@abbypd.ca or 604-864-4899.
