Slain Woman Found In San Francisco Park Identified As Quebec Tourist Audrey Carey

Darpan News Desk The Canadian Press, 07 Oct, 2015 11:34 AM
SAN FRANCISCO — Relatives of a 23-year-old Quebec woman whose body was found in San Francisco's Golden Gate Park over the weekend say she was on her first solo backpacking trip that would have taken her all the way to Europe.

Audrey Carey's uncle had told her family she was embarking on an adventure and decided she would go to for the first time to the United States and then make her way to Europe.

Rejean Carey told the San Francisco Chronicle he didn't know when his niece had left Canada, but he said she planned to make the western United States the first leg of her journey.

A spokesman for San Francisco police says a passer-by discovered Carey's body on Saturday morning, following the first day of the Hardly Strictly Bluegrass Festival, and called police.

Officer Albie Esparza says paramedics declared her dead at the scene and there was evidence of trauma to her body. A cause of death was not immediately released.

Esparza said it was unclear if Carey attended the festival in Golden Gate Park on Friday night. Her body was found several hours before the first act of the concert went on stage Saturday.
