Single-lane traffic on Highway 97 by wildfire

Darpan News Desk The Canadian Press, 28 Jun, 2021 02:50 PM
  • Single-lane traffic on Highway 97 by wildfire

The BC Wildfire Service was fighting an out-of-control blaze in the province's southern Interior on Monday that prompted the partial closure of a major highway.

It says the Log Jam wildfire burning south of Peachland was estimated to be less than half a square kilometre but smoke was likely to be visible in the area.

It says Highway 97 was reduced to a single lane of alternating traffic.

The service says on social media that no structures were threatened at mid-afternoon on Monday.

It says 10 personnel and Peachland's fire department were being supported by air tankers and three helicopters in fighting the blaze.

Madison Smith, a spokeswoman for the BC Wildfire Service, says the cause of the fire was under investigation.
