Showers And Lower Temperatures Forecast For Weekend Could Tame B.C. Wildfires

Darpan News Desk The Canadian Press, 10 Jul, 2015 01:39 PM
VANCOUVER — Showers and cooler weather could be a welcome relief for firefighters battling wildfires across British Columbia.

Environment Canada is forecasting lower temperatures and the possibility of rain in Williams Lake, Pemberton and Nelson, all areas where fires have been devouring forests.

Fire information officer Kevin Skrepnek says no new fires of note occurred overnight though about 200 blazes continue to burn across the province.

Air quality advisories for parts of Vancouver Island have ended, though advisories are still in effect for the Comox Valley, Whistler and the Sunshine Coast.

Many municipalities around the province have imposed water restrictions in the midst of unseasonably hot, dry weather.

Vancouver residents can be fined $250 for watering more than once a week or outside of the hours of 4 a.m. to 9 a.m., and lawn watering has been banned in Abbotsford, where a so-called sprinkler patrol is enforcing restrictions.
