Several Expectant Mothers In Ontario Claim They Got Same Ultrasound Image

The Canadian Press, 19 May, 2016 12:01 PM
At least a dozen expectant mothers claim an Ontario ultrasound clinic gave them the wrong images of their unborn children.

They say BabyView 3D Prenatal Imaging gave at least a dozen women an identical ultrasound image, though the pictures were supposedly taken at different times and dates.

The women have shared the images on a Facebook group and are seeking others who may have found themselves in the same situation.

Pickering-based BabyView issued an apology for a situation it did not elaborate on, citing a non-specific "technical issue" with the printing service.

BabyView says the problem has been resolved and is offering refunds or fresh scans for affected customers.

The apology was not enough for expectant mothers who found themselves questioning the authenticity of their ultrasound pictures.

"I am outraged!!! How do I go back in time and replace those??," asked one Facebook poster. "Whose babies are sitting on my fireplace?"

A Facebook group set up for past BabyView customers, which had more than 700 members as of Wednesday afternoon, featured many parents saying their images duplicated others posted in the group.

Some also reported that the gender information they were provided at their ultrasound appointments proved inaccurate once the child was born.

Others felt the violation ran more deeply.

"It's not just about the photo and believing it's your baby. These women laid there, trusting, as someone was touching their personal selves for an hour," wrote one poster. "To tell them to get dressed and hand them a photo of another baby? That's a huge violation of that trust."

BabyView did not respond to a request for comment.
