Separate Blazes Damage Barn, Commercial Building In Abbotsford, Surrey

    VANCOUVER — Early-morning blazes kept firefighters busy in two suburban Vancouver cities on Thursday.
     
    An empty chicken barn in Abbotsford was fully engulfed by the time crews arrived shortly after 4 a.m. 
     
    The big barn (at the corner of Fore and Bell roads) in the Matsqui Prairie area east of Abbotsford, has been destroyed and the cause remains under investigation.
     
    Surrey firefighters also handled a major blaze at a large, commercial warehouse in the Port Kells neighbourhood, about 40 kilometres east of Vancouver.
     
     
    Crews were called just before 6 a.m. and fire officials say flames quickly broke through the roof of the building but only hot spots remained by 8:30 a.m.
     
    A cause of the fire (on 192nd St. at 92nd Ave.) has not been determined.
