Searchers Scour Remote Area Of B.C.'s Sunshine Coast For Missing Young Man

The Canadian Press, 09 Jun, 2016 11:37 AM
VANCOUVER — A search is resuming for a person missing in the turbulent waters of the Malibu rapids northeast of Powell River, B.C.

Sunshine Coast RCMP Const. Harrison Mohr says the young man fell into the rapids early Wednesday afternoon.

Mohr says aircraft and rescue vessels raced to the remote area of the Sunshine Coast, at the northern end of Jervis Inlet were it meets Princess Louisa Inlet.

No trace of the victim has been found and the RCMP's West Coast Marine Services has been called to join the rescue effort.

Searchers are concentrating on an area known as Malibu, a former private resort now operated as a Christian camp.

Mohr says access to the region is very challenging and another update isn't expected until Thursday afternoon.
